My work consists of photography, serigraphy (silk-screen printmaking) and pastel drawing. I approach my serigraphs with what I call a “visual dialogue” -- after applying a color to the image, I evaluate the direction I am headed and make compositional and color changes along the way, similar to a painter. Some of my photo-serigraphs have more than a hundred layers of color. In my photography I use both digital and traditional processes, but most of my final prints are done with the digital process. This allows me some of the latitude and “visual dialogue” that I found with my serigraphs. With pastels, I feel the same enjoyment of “playing with color” that I do with my serigraphs.
My principal subjects are the landscape and the human figure -- nude, draped or gowned. In both cases my interest is in exploring natural beauty and form. I often compare the human figure to elements in nature such as trees, dunes and seashells, or conrast it with architectural elements such as ruins, fences and lighthouses. Combining two or more images into many of my serigraphs is one of the unique aspects of that portion of my work.
